Arttrober 2026 (Part 2 of 4)

October means drawing lots of character art, one a day for the entire month. Once again I'm following Stanley Lau's Arttrober list. This post will collect the second eight days of the challenge, starting, logically enough, from October 9th.

The first eight days of this drawing challenge are to found here.

A drawing of Azula, a significant antagonist from the animation Avatar: The Last Airbender. Azula is a dark-haired woman with brown eyes who can bend the elements of fire and lightning. She wears clothes of the Fire Nation: pointed shoulder pads over a brown and red tunic and trousers. Her hair is tied back into a top-knot decorated by a dagger-like hairpin. In the drawing she is leaning forward, hands raised as she summons lightning in the direction of the viewer.
09 Azula (Avatar: The Last Airbender)

The Last Airbender is an animated show I've long thought about watching, and never got round to doing so. Its pop cultural footprint is sufficient however for me to know an almost embarrassing amount about its cast and storyline, so I know Azula at least: princess of the Fire Nation, deadly competent, and able to 'bend' (control) lightning as well as the more commonplace fire. So that's an excuse for adding some extra 'special effects' to the drawing, which I have duly done.

A drawing of Nico Robin, a member of the Straw Hat Pirates in the manga and anime One Piece. Robin is a tall woman with shoulder-length dark hair and teal eyes, whose Devil Fruit power allows her to 'sprout' replicas of her body parts (most commonly arms) from remove surfaces. In the drawing, Robin is wearing a leather jacket over a white and purple dress. She's being viewed side-on, looking across past the viewer. Additional hands decorate the drawing, entering the frame from either side
10 Nico Robin (One Piece)

One Piece is an anime and manga I've been following for a long time now. I remember seeing a Chinese bootleg of the anime when I was much younger and thinking: what is this rubbish? Eventually I gave the show another chance though, and came to appreciate it more, alternatively watching the anime or reading the manga through different arcs over the years. Nico Robin remains one of my favourite Straw Hat characters, so I took the opportunity to draw her in one of her best arcs: the Water 7 arc, when her background and motivations are finally revealed to Luffy and the others.

A drawing of Princess Zelda from the Legend of Zelda videogame series, specifically the incarnation from Breath of the Wild. Zelda is a woman with long blonde hair, partially braided around the crown of her head. She has blue eyes and pointed elfin ears. She's shown stepping into the frame with one hand pushing past the border of the drawing. She's wearing a quilted white shirt with a blue top with golden trim that includes Triforce imagery. She also has a brown sash around her hip with a pouch on one side.
11 Zelda (The Legend of Zelda)

A character of many incarnations, there are a few different ways I could have drawn Princess Zelda of the Legend of Zelda games, but I chose her Breath of the Wild incarnation. I wouldn't mind playing Breath of the Wild (and potentially Tears of the Kingdom), but I've never purchased a Nintendo Switch and can't really justify spending money on one when I have so many games to play on the platforms that I do have access to.

A drawing of Zatanna, a magician from the DC Comics universe. Zatanna is a dark-haired woman with green eyes. She dresses like a stage magician, wearing a top-hat, a black dinner jacket, white blouse and corset, and fishnet tights. In the drawing she's smiling at the viewer, lifting her hat with one hand while holding a rod topped with an amethyst in the other.
12 Zatanna (Zatanna)

Zatanna is another character that I've drawn before as part of Arttrober. A stage magician with actual magic powers (involving speaking backwards, I believe), she's starred in various DC comics lines that I haven't myself read. Still, the stage magician shtick is fun enough to draw now and then.

A drawing of Reze, a character from the Chainsaw Man manga. Reze is the Bomb Devil, but ordinarily appears as a young woman with teal eyes and slightly messy black hair, partly tied back in a bun. In the drawing, she's looking at the viewer mischeviously with a slight smirk on her face while toying with a ring (actually a grenade pin) apparently attached to the choker around her neck. She's wearing a sleeveless white blouse with a dark ribbon tie, black shorts with slight slits up the sides, and thigh-high black stockings.
13 Reze (Chainsaw Man)

The Bomb Devil, Reze. I believe this is the fourth time a character from Chainsaw Man has appeared in the Arttrober list since I started taking the challenge. This suggests to me two things: one, that Stanley Lau (the creator of Arttrober) really likes Chainsaw Man; and two, maybe I should consider watching the anime (or reading the manga) sometime.

A drawing of the Shenhe, a character from the videogame Genshin Impact. Shenhe is a woman with iridescent eyes and long white hair, which she wears in a single long braid. She wears something that resembles a black unitard with cutouts at the shoulders and hips, with attached puffy white-and-grey sleeves and various gold and red adornments and a cape. In the drawing, she's bending forward, one hand on her knee, to take a closer look at the viewer.
14 Shenhe (Genshin Impact)

I've never played Genshin Impact, but my brother has been playing for years without spending a penny. So good for him, I suppose. In any case, I generally feel mild dread whenever a Genshin Impact (or Honkai Star Rail, or other MiHoYo game) character appears in the prompt list, simply because of how ridiculously elaborate many of the character designs are. Nevertheless, I have managed to roughly approximate Shenhe's outfit in a reasonable span of time without suffering a breakdown.

A drawing of Illyana Rasputin, otherwise known as Magik, a character from the X-Men comics. Magik is a woman with blue eyes and long, straight blonde hair. In the drawing, she's dressed in a black leather ensemble with armoured shoulder pads and added spikes, but also a fair amount of bare skin, making her outfit's applicability as armour questionable. She's carrying propped on one shoulder a large sword that glows with infernal light and is frowning slightly at the viewer.
15 Magik (X-Men)

Illyana Rasputin, also known as Magik, was apparently dragged into Hell (or some other demonic dimension) as a child, and this has somewhat flavoured her outlook on life. That aside, she's another X-Men character, and one that was fairly entertaining to draw, with a limited black and yellow colour palette and a big glowing sword. I don't think she's wearing enough armour for it to protect her.

A drawing of Dark Magician Girl, a character on a Yu-Gi-Oh card who has appeared in the anime and possibly other places. Dark Magician Girl is a green-eyed woman with unruly long blonde hair. She wears a blue and pink costume consisting of a shoulderless bodice, armlets, a mantle, a crescent skirt, and a curved conical hat. In the drawing, she's floating in the air, legs up, holding her magic rod while glancing across at the viewer. That sounds ruder than it actually is.
16 Dark Magician Girl (Yu-Gi-Oh)

I'm not entirely sure that this counts as a character insomuch as it's just a representation of a card in a children's card game. Silliness aside, this was surprisingly fun to draw. I'm only really familiar with Yu-Gi-Oh from the abridged series on Youtube though.

Arttrober continues with the next post in the series.
