Artwork: Axe-wielding Erinys And Angel

After 31 days of Arttrober, it was time for something I could take a little bit more time over, but still within my comfort zone—so I drew another erinys.

The result: another 'demonic' character striking a pose for the viewer with a slightly skewed perspective.

A digital drawing of an erinys. She looms slightly over the viewer, standing poised with one hand on her hip, the other holding the haft of an axe, her body oriented sideways to the viewer, framed by large blue feathery wings. She had long purple hair, yellow pupilless eyes, a prehensile tail and upward-sweeping curved horns. She's wearing a burgundy halter-top, a dark leather corset and baggy dark-purple trousers as well as burgundy detached sleeves. She's wearing bronze disc earrings and a bronze bangle around her left wrist. The drawing is presented in a skewed black picture frame.
A purple-haired erinys looks down at you, her powerful wings partly unfurled around her slim frame. She may be contemplating swinging her axe at you.

I specifically wanted to experiment a bit with light and shading here, going for slightly starker but also more deeply hued shadows than my other recent drawings. I also wanted to play with contrast, giving the character a slight blueish hue against the orange backdrop. And finally, playing with borders to see how I could frame the image in an interesting way.

And then a day later, I created a 'mirror' variant—removing the horns and tail, adding a halo and changing the colour scheme to make an 'angelic' version:

A digital drawing of an angel. She looms slightly over the viewer, standing poised with one hand on her hip, the other holding the haft of an axe, her body oriented sideways to the viewer, framed by large pastel-coloured feathery wings. She has long blonde hair, liliac eyes and a glowing halo. She's wearing a pale blue halter-top with detached sleeves, a cream-coloured leather corset and baggy light purple trousers. She's wearing teal disc earrings and a golden bangle around her right wrist. The drawing is presented in a skewed white picture frame.
A golden-haired angel looks down at you, wings slightly unfurled around her. Is she here to offer mercy or judgement?

It was interesting to try out a very different kind of lighting—less about contrast and more about a suffusing the entire image in a warm glow.
