Artwork: City Elf

Back to more Victorian-style fare. Here we have a 'modern' (for a given value of modern...) fashionable elf dressed for urban life.

A young elf with long, straight auburn hair tinted green at the edges. She is dressed in a Victorian-style long black dress, with ruffles around the bodice, puffed sleeves and pleats at the hem of her skirt. She's wearing a felt-lined narrow-brimmed hat with colored feathers attached to the hatband. She's wearing a choker with attached pendant; the pendant's stone is green and pink, like her eyes. She had matching earrings and a brown leather pouch attached to her belt. The belt also has a smallsword hanging from it. She's wearing red leather boots with heels.
Dressed to impress in the 19th century.

I like sometimes to play with colour gradations, particularly hair, gemstones and eyes. With hair it's usually quite simple: a realistic hair colour overall, tinted at the ends towards one end or other of the colour spectrum. I like the effect; I don't think the subjects are actually dying their tips like that, so it must be a 'natural' effect of the subject's world, like having pointed ears. With eyes, its more a fascination with heterochromia and unnatural eye colours, while multi-hued gems are just pretty. And wouldn't it be reasonable for a person with multi-hued eyes to choose gemstones in earrings and pendants that match their eyes?
